Chiller
PLEASE NOTE: Aqaurium Chillers are very sensitive
to fluctuations in voltage. Because of this we recommend you plug the chiller
directly into the wall instead of into a power strip. Aquarium chillers
are designed to keep your aquarium cool on those hot summer days, which
is often a problem with reef tanks with heavy lighting (or for cool temperate
aquariums that require cool temperatures). For proper sizing you should
first determine or estimate the temperature of tank in the worst case situation--such
as the hottest days of the year. Then determine how many degrees you need
to reduce the temperature of your tank. (A reef tank should not be above
82 degrees.) Look at the Tank Cooling Capability to determine which chiller
has the capability to reduce your tanks temperature to its required temperature.
Getting an aquarium chiller that is larger than needed will allow you to
run the chiller less often, resulting in less noise and longer aquarium
chiller life (the chiller will turn off and on automatically as needed).
